It’s the middle of the rutting season. The #lynx rubs his cheeks and marks a woodpile with urine. In the daytime footage, the lynx is unfortunately stretching out of the camera trap’s field of view. You can tell by the position of its front legs 😻 #cameratrapping

A night time camera trap image, showing part of a wooden building to the side, with an endangered Eastern Quoll to the front of the image. The quoll is looking at the camera, and has a dark fur with multiple white spots, with a plain black tail.

I put the spare #CameraTrapping #TrailCamera onto the potting shed near the house, as I has suspicions that 'someone' was using the area underneath. The 'someone' was 2 #Endangered Eastern Quolls, 1 being the beautiful dark morph.

Ruffed grouse (Bonasa umbellus) displaying in the fall, Montana. Image made with a DSLR camera trap with a sensor and external flashes. There are two interesting behaviors visible in the image:

Fall display: Some grouse species will also display in the fall, not only the spring. They are triggered by the relative day length, just like in the spring.

Lekking behavior? Ruffed grouse do not congregate on a lek. So what is going on here? Looking at all the images, there was only 1 male that fanned its tail and ruffed its neck feathers. This is likely the only dominant male in the image. The others are likely immature grouse that group up in the fall and stay together through the winter. They may have wandered into the adult male's territory, and then the adult male started signaling its dominance. Apparently this happened to occur in front of my camera...

Nice portrait of a stone marten passing through our garden, or rather forest 😃. The date and time are incorrect. #cameratrapping

A camera trap image of a snowy boreal forest during winter. There are four moose in the photo. 3 bulls with different sized antlers are facing each other with their heads down and antlers touching. A yellow and red striped pole (the snow stake) is in the middle of the photo. In the background a cow moose stands with her nose in the air. Are they casting a spell?

Not sure what sort of spell these moose are casting on our snow stake...but I have a bad feeling about it 🪄

It is interesting to observe by means of CTs how wildlife react to lures (castorenom and valerian). In particular, the reaction of #wildboar. #cameratrapping #attractants #Alps

Camera trap image from a Reconyx camera. The photo shows a showy boreal forest in late November. There are aspen and spruce trees in the background. There are two yellow and red vertical poles in the centre of the photo. To the right of the photo is an 8-pointed white-tailed deer buck with longer darker hair on the top of this head that looks kind of like a toupe.

Is this deer still considered an unmarked individual if it has such a distinctive (and stylish) coiffure?

A brief moment spent in the company of the ghost of our forests. This is the first time an individual has shown interest in the lure I put on top of the trunc. He disappears as suddenly as it appeared, balancing on the fallen tree trunk like #lynx like to do! #cameratrapping #Swiss #Alps
