Cape Reinga lighthouse

Looking north to sea from Cape Reinga lighthouse lookout. It is a fine sunny day with white clouds in the blue sky. The sea is a mix of light & dark blue. To the left is the Tasman Sea & to the right is the Pacific Ocean. It is sea all the way to the horizon.

Looking down & north to the northernmost bit of Cape Reinga where according to Maori lore is the point where spirits depart Aotearoa New Zealand.

This is where the Pacific Ocean and Tasman Sea meet. They're different depths, so when waters from the two clash, it's clearly visible from the #CapeReinga Lighthouse. This is almost the northernmost point of #NewZealand.

Took a visit up to Cape Reinga, the most northerly place in New Zealand. It’s here that Māori believe our spirits go to leave the earth and go into the afterlife. Also, where the Tasman and the pacific seas meet (seen to the left of the lighthouse)

A cool start to the day at Cape Reinga. The lighthouse has been in operation since 1941. More recently the light has changed from a rotating beacon to a more efficient and simple flashing LED, with a range of 19nm.
