The #IJN naval base at #Truk in the #Carolines was established in October 1914, during the opening months of the #FWW. For the next 30 years, the Japanese would position many important ships at this forward-operating base, including the battleships #Yamato and #Musashi. 1/7

It’s #WarshipWednesday! The battleship #Satsuma was laid down at #Yokosuka Naval Arsenal on the 15th of May 1905 and commissioned 25 March 1910. She did not see action in the #FWW but was part of a squadron that took custody of the #Carolines and #Palau from #Germany in 1914.
