What sort of object might this be?
The material and compact, pan-friendly form point toward a trade weight rather than a toy or ornament. From the late third to early second millennium BC, Mesopotamian merchants and administrators favored hematite for weights because it is dense, tough, and hard to tamper with.
Many weights were simple cylinders, but animal shapes also circulated in the Bronze Age marketplace. Surviving sets show the spectrum from plain barrel forms to ducks and frogs, all meant to sit steadily on a balance pan.

A large carved standing stone on display at the National Museum of Scotland. The stone features intricate spiral and geometric patterns believed to be of Pictish origin, etched into a reddish-brown surface. It is displayed in a museum setting under warm lighting, with minimal background distractions.

A Mayan hacha (Spanish for "axe") is a ceremonial object, specifically a piece of protective gear, associated with the Mesoamerican ball game. Hachas were worn by players for protection and to possibly enhance their ability to bounce the ball, and they could also represent the power of associated deities or animals.
Hachas were part of the uniform worn by players in the Mesoamerican ball game, a ritualistic sport with significant social and religious importance.
Players would wear hachas for protection during the game, and it's believed they also served to channel the power of the animals or deities depicted on the hacha.
In Mayan culture, deer hold significant meaning and are a central part of their rituals and symbolism. Deer are a primary food source, depicted in art, and are associated with various deities and spiritual beliefs, including the Manik/Deer spirit animal and the Deer Dance.

In the ancient mesoamerican cultures of Mexico the frog was usually associated with water and a good harvest which represented wealth, prosperity, good health, many children, basically everything good in life at that time. Could also be called a 'good luck' charm, because these amulets were believed to draw the good things to the wearer. Green stones were highly prized in ancient Mexico because they were also associated with bountiful life as well. The stone relic is probably about 1500-2000 years old. Antonio Castillo was a lifelong collector of pre-Columbian artifacts, and he would occasionally use them in his one of a kind jewelry creations.
This example is from later in his career circa 1980 or thereabouts.
