Three Star Wars themed scarves from the Rose City Rebels fan made merch group for the Timbers Army fans of Portland Timbers. Top to bottom: top scarf is themed after the first Star Wars movie, New Hope, is says “The North End” in smaller Star Wars font, below in large print across the majority of the scarf it says “A wretched hive of scum and villainy”, the North End is a geographical nickname for the Timbers Army section of the stadium, and the wretched hive line is a quote from New Hope, the background and fringe is dark brown, the text is tan; the center scarf is themed after the second movie, The Empire Strikes Back (ESB), in large green Star Wars font it says “The Rose City Strikes Back”, on each end of the scarf the fringe is a mix of green and white, above is on the left end written perpendicular to the length of the scarf it says “Save the Tauntaun” on the right end is says “Gut the fish”, which is reference to a scene in ESB where an animal is sliced open to keep someone from freezing only its saying to use a fish instead which is in reference to the “Seattle Flounders” nickname for the rival Seattle Sounders team, above the text on each end is a logo that looks like the Star Wars rebel logo turned sideways and the center point turned into a double sided axe, in the center of the logos are Jefferson pine trees, the background of the scarf is bars of blue, white, and green, which is a reference to the Cascadia flag; the bottom scarf is themed after the 3rd movie, Return of the Jedi (ROTJ), in large gold Star Wars font it says “Rose City Rebels” and below “Return of the Green & Gold”, the background is green, the fringes on the end are a mix of green and gold, above the fringes is a modified Star Wars rebel lego, combined with the iconic New Hope poster, only the center point of the rebel logo looks like Luke’s vertically extended lightsaber but the tip turns into a double sided axe, and the outside ends look sort of like Leia’s fluttering cape.

Backsides of the scarves, top to bottom: top scarf depicts a landscape of Tatooine (Luke Skywalker’s home planet and the setting for some of New Hope movie), foreground colors are dark brown, midground colors are light brown, and the skybox is tan with a yellow and orange sun in the sky, on the left is a sandperson standing on a building and shaking their spear in the air, to the right of it is the dome and antenna array of Luke’s home, to the right is Luke’s landspeeder hover car, to the right of that is the icon arched entrance side of the Portland Timber’s stadium with the clock in the center arc, I believe it is supposed to represent the Mos Eisley Cantina from New Hope, and finally on the right edge is Jabba the Hutt’s palace off in the distance on some cliffs that grow off the edge of the scarf; the center scarf depicts the snow battle on Hoth from Empire Strikes Back, the background is comprised of white (snow) mountains with dark grey (earth) highlights against a light grey skybox, there are three dark grey AT-AT Imperial walkers approaching from the left, the closest one to the view has what appears to be the Seattle Space needle as a logo on its side (in reference to the Timbers rivals, the Seattle Sounders), one walker is toppled in the background, in the center is fish bones (reference to the Seattle “Flounders”), on the right are double axe wielding Tauntaun riders, emerging from a base that looks like the arched entrance to the Timbers stadium, an axe shaped space ship flies above; the bottom scarf depicts the Battle of Endor from Return of the Jedi, in the center is a dark green silhouette of a wookie holding an axe, above in the light grey skybox is a dark grey Death Star, the dish of the Death Star has light and dark green panels, in the sky are spaceships some look like axes some look like Tie Fighters, on the edges are toppled AT-ATs

Four video game themed scarves from the Timbers Army fan made merch group, Cascadia Entertainment System. From top to bottom: depicts a green and white Mario throwing a few fire balls towards plant coming out of a Mario-style sewer pipe from the left side of the scarf, some of the fireballs also look like green hearts, this is mirrored and flipped on the right with the same imagery thus showing two Mario’s tossing fireballs towards the center of the scarf, on the left edge near fringe is says “PT” on the right edge, “FC” which is a reference to Portland Timbers Football Club; the next scarf is Donkey Kong themed and based on the original arcade game, in the center is Donkey Kong holding two barrels up, near his feet are some oil fires, to his left and right are a series of girder, ladders, and oil fires (oriented perpendicular to the length of the scarf) representing the original level in Donkey Kong, on the edges are characters that look like soccer players (instead of Mario), the scarf is designed so that when you wear it, the two sides of girders lineup with each other; the 3rd scarf is Zelda themed, on the left edge (perpendicular to scarf length) is a green and gold dressed Link holding up a trophy cup (MLS Cup), on the right is a red and green dressed Link holding a piece of Tri-Force over his head, in the center it says “Make Some Noise” and above is is a warp flute from Zelda 1; the last scarf is Mega Man themed, it depicts a soccer field across the length of the scarf, on the left is a green and yellow Mega Man, shooting soccer ball like projectiles from his arm cannon, on the left is Woodman (boss from Mega Man 2), making a reference to the lumberjack themes inherent to the Portland Timbers iconography.

Backside of these Cascadia Entertainment System scarves, top to bottom: top scarf (Mario throwing fireballs on other side) is says “Green and Gold Gold Gold” (a reference to the Timbers Army chant based on the Italian anti-fascist song, Bella Ciao), there are green and white lines striping the length of the scarf, the “o”s in Gold are green hearts; the next scarf (Donkey Kong themed), depicts two long parallel girders running the majority of the length of the scarf, with bits of ladders going toward the center, between the girders is written “BURN DESTROY WRECK KILL” with oil fires between each word, on the edges are oil fire barrels with the words “SEA” and “VAN” written on them (a reference to our Cascadian rivals, Seattle and Vancouver, and a retired Timbers Army chant that included the words “burn, destroy, wreck, and kill”; the next scarf (Zelda themed) depicts the old man you encounter in the first cave at the start of Zelda 1 that gives you your first sword, below him is a double sided axe instead of a sword, Link is entering from the bottom of the screen to get the axe, above the man is says “It’s dangerous to go alone! Take this.” (Which is what the old man tells you in Zelda), to the left and right of this are 3 sets of parallel red lines running perpendicular to the scarf length, these lines seem to be mostly decorative but may also be the cave walls; the final scarf (Mega Man themed), says “All I Want Is Goals” (which is reference to Timbers Army chant based on the Beastie Boy’s song “Girls”), and on edge side is a yellow perpendicular bar that is purely decorative to frame the words.

3 soccer scarves made by the Portland Timbers fan group called the Cascadia Entertainment System. This group cranked out a lot of Nintendo x Timbers themed merchandise in the mid 2010s, though it is long since defunct. From top to bottom: the first scarce is black with Legend of Zelda Tri-Forces on each edge, on the left is 8-bit Link from Zelda 1, on the right is 8-bit Zelda, in the middle is 3 hearts (depicting the health system in the game; the second scarf looks like the side view of a Super Mario Bros 3 like level, on the upper left where the score would normally be it says “Rose City” and in place of the timer it says “1975” (a reference to when the club was first started), on the upper right is says “Kings of Cascadia”, in the main section is is a series of Mario platforms, pits with water and Big Bertha fish trying to catch Mario, Mario has just punched an item box and instead of normal Mario item, a double sided axe has popped out; the last scarf looks like the overworld map on Super Mario Bros 3, a line connecting several boxes representing levels that end at a castle, only in this case the levels have the initials of teams that Timbers had to go through in the 2015 playoffs (Sporting KC, Vancouver Whitecaps, FC Dallas), the castle at the end says the initials for Columbus (which was the team the Timbers beat in MLS Cup), at the far end of the level path is Providence Park (home of the Timbers) with the words “2015 Champs” and a Mario Super Star on it, beyond the Columbus castle is a trophy with a Mario Super Star on it representing the MLS Cup, on the right side is a winner podium that looks like what you see after a completing a cup in Super Mario Kart with an angry Donkey Kong wearing a D for Dallas shirt on 3rd step, an angry Princess Peach wearing a yellow dress that says “CCSC” for Columbus Crew SC” on the 2nd place step, and Mario (or Luigi?) wearing a Timbers jersey and green hat and holding a bottle of champagne standing on the first place step.

Back side of scarves in previous picture, from top to bottom: the top (Zelda themed) scarf says “I can’t help falling in love with you”, which is a reference to the Elvis song that the Timbers Army sings at the 85th minute of games; the middle scarf says “Gut The Fish” and has a picture of Mario in a frog suit chasing after a Cheep Chomp fish, this is a reference to the “Gut the fish” phrase used when talking about beating the Timbers biggest rivals, the Seattle Sounders (aka the Flounders, as they are called among some Timbers fans); the bottom scarf looks like the animation that plays on the title screen for Super Mario Kart with a side view of two karts racing among a Mario level background, in the cart that’s behind and on the left is a yellow Wario (depicting Columbus), on the right in the lead is a green shirted Mario (depicting the Timbers), between them it says “New Record!! 00’27”00” (representing the goal the Timbers scored in the MLS Cup final in the opening 27 seconds), and in large text in the center it says “Onward, Rose City”
