Mel swiped her brush across the canvas, tracing a line of gold down her mirrorโs collarbone. Her self-portraitโthe final piece for her gallery the following weekโwas nearly completed. It was unusual for the established artist to use herself as her subject, at least in the traditional still-life fashion. But this event was anything but traditional. For the first time, her mother would be attending. Everything had to be perfect.
