On #ThisDayInHistory in 1923, the Arkansas #CatcherRaceRiot took place. The unexplained death of a white woman was pretext for a #pogrom in which three were killed and the entire #AfricanAmerican population was expelled, their cemeteries exhumed & burnt, creating a #SundownTown.

TWO African American men were executed while a THIRD was given life in prison, following speedy trials that included dubious “evidence” offered by the prosecution.
Like many events called “race riots” in mainstream U.S. history texts, this is better described as massacres.

Facts: A white woman was assaulted & murdered in the Catcher community of Crawford County, AR. W/in a few days, a Black man was murdered, 11 Black men were charged w/ night riding & after serious threats to their safety, there was an exodus from Catcher of every Black family.
