>Traveling Bug<

Natalie Zapata and King William "Liam" of Luxembourg definitely have a non-traditional meet-cute with her being a madam and everything. I do like how things go that first weekend. It's cute and sweet and steamy.

-- Book quote
'His gaze meets mine, and he slowly rakes his eyes down my body. Usually when men do this, I feel objectified, but with this guy, it feels different. I donโ€™t know why. Maybe itโ€™s because it doesnโ€™t feel like heโ€™s checking me out as if Iโ€™m a piece of meat, but instead drinking me in, like heโ€™s thirsty and is dying for a sip.'
-- Natalie Zapata

There's a bit of a lull in the middle as the foundation for what comes next was laid out. I feel like this ended right when it was starting to get good again. A little inner circle drama, a race to correct a misunderstanding, and *BAM!* it's over. ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Also, this is a huge departure from Gio & Aria's story. Yes, Natalie here is the same one in that book. We get about two pages of her horrid ordeal with the late Senator (which can be triggering for some) and other refreshers from that book (at least one isn't completely correct). It's enough that some might see it as too much of a spoiler, but I digress.

Other than some catty BS that was completely predictable, the darkness and angst were missing. I don't need those things or generally expect them from Nikki Ash, but after book one, I did expect more of the same here. If it weren't for La Stella's, I might have thought they weren't tied in the same series.

Anyway, those are my two cents on this. If you don't like dark romance, skip book one and chapter 2, and you'll probably enjoy this. I do like it, but if you're coming off the other book like me and expect more of the same / similar, well, see above.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Christian Leatherman and Cecily Foster, are great. Christian's accent is yum, and Cecily brings the emotions to life well.

Resilience Unmasked

This is one of the darkest books from Nikki that I've read. There are multiple instances of SA, along with substance abuse and violence. While these didn't stop me from loving the book, I do recommend checking your triggers.

Giovanni (Gio) Valentino is all kinds of alpha and dark, but he has his morals when it comes to the safety of women. It's something that initially makes him appealing. As the story goes on, the list of reasons grows.

Aria (Ari) Sutton Hightower... the things this woman is subjected to are horrible, but her strength and resilience in the adversity shines through. She's graped, beaten, and regularly abused, as well as strongly encouraged / forced to do drugs. Yet, she manages to come out on the other side. She may be weary, but I love that she's also hopeful.

-- Book quote
'Even without the drugs, Iโ€™ve trained myself to escape my mind during his torture. For several long moments, Iโ€™m free.'
-- Aria Sutton

The heat and chemistry are great, even when Gio fights it. The twists and turns kept me enthralled, even those that were predictable. The ending is a bit untraditional but so very fitting for this couple.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Christian Leatherman and Cecily Foster, are great. They bring the emotions and make this an enjoyable listen.

>The End and the Beginning<

This is a highly entertaining epilogue to the Fighting series, as well as a prequel to the Fighting for Love series. I laughed, cried, and fell over from laughing even harder.

-- Book quote
'What if she doesnโ€™t return? What if she decides to live in California permanently? I canโ€™t lose my princess. It feels like I just got her.'
-- Cooper

Cooper's freak out about Bella going away to college is absolutely perfect. And Ryan talking brought tears to my eyes. And... it's just a really good bridge between the two series.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators are James Amherst and Cecily Foster. I like them both, but with so many POVs, it was sometimes hard to keep straight which character was speaking.

Stolen Future Forged from Similar Pasts

Poor Verona Moretti. Being forced to marry one-time childhood friend turned persona non grata Luca Vitale would be bad enough, but when he turns out to be a giant alphahole? Man, oh man. Good thing she's got some naivety and kindness in her court.

Now, I read the second book in the series first, so I knew where this was going, but to actually read it was definitely worth it.

-- Book quote
'Tears are in my eyes as we walk down the silent aisle. I donโ€™t feel like a bride at all. No, I feel like a prisoner being taken to jail for a life sentence.'
-- Verona Moretti

I love how she proves him wrong at every turn. His rose, or rather hate, colored glasses allow him to make so many assumptions. I love how he can't comprehend what he sees. Of course, once things start to click, he still manages to make missteps because his communication skills can use an overhaul. ๐Ÿ˜„

There are twists and turns. Some are obvious, some less so. All in all, a good, dark foray into this Mafia family. Oh, it's also really steamy with many BDSM elements.

I received an author's copy of the audio book. The narrators, Cecily Foster and Vincent Skye, are engaging with the emotions matching the words and situations. I really like them.
