I came up with an idea a few months ago, and subsequent collaborative development with @notbourneyesterday.bsky.social and @nicolaschaferfilm.bsky.social resulted in this, which has grown into so much more than my original concept.
Well done to all involved. youtu.be/NM1e4N9JYZk?...

Blackfly (Simulid) larvae thriving in what they need, a well-oxygenated fast flowing stream, the River Nar. Ecosystem engineers, their fecal pellets provide nutrients to such #chalkstreams, the adult flies being favoured trout food (emulated by anglers). #riverflies #rivers #invert #wildlife 6/9
Besides Duck Mussels (Anodonta anatina), Lymnaea stagnaris snails & plentiful caddis fly larvae eg Potamophylax?, some surfaces of River Nar above #Narborough were rendered hairy by a layer of Black Fly (Simulid) larvae. #Riverflies #chalkstreams #Norfolk #MolluscMonday #snails #invert #nature 5/9

Thankfully, as the Shep nears Shepreth, presumably due to improvements by Friends of the River Shep, gravelly patches return to the river, with Brown Trout more evident, before the water spurts under a mill & heads on down to join the Cam/Rhee at Barrington. #chalkstreams #rivers 9/10
Puzzled by this "River" Rhee at Fowlmere, that arises near Royston & at Barrington flows into the River Rhee arising at Ashwell; it's a trickle, choked with ominous brown algae in places, put has Fool's Watercress & Crack Willows & Aspens on its banks. #Chalkstreams #Cambridgeshire 2/10
The #BishopofNorwich has backed a Bill requiring the Secretary of State to take the necessary steps for Britain’s #chalkstreams to be awarded #UNESCO World Heritage status and recognised and protected as among the rarest habitats in the world
We can’t recreate a chalk stream.
We can’t move one.
We can’t build a new one.
We can only protect the ones we have.
📣 Add your voice and tell the Government to protect chalk streams as irreplaceable habitats.

This makes them a wonderful, and important, part of our local and national environment, and of our heritage.
As someone who has been campaigning hard to protect our chalk streams, I will be urging the Government to support Pippa's Bill.

Winter flow monitoring!
Surface water rains have increased flows over the last month. These rains are also just starting to be seen in the Aquifer Recharge, the underground sponge that feeds our precious #chalkstreams in drier months. After the dry summer, this is welcome news.

This is a critical moment for UK nature. 🌿
Let’s make sure our MPs know: we want planning that protects wildlife, not destroys it. 🗣️💥

Screen capture of an affinity water webpage showing the water usage for a single person - 46 litres per day.
Excessive water usage is a killer for sensitive #chalkstreams.
Average consumption per capita in the Southeast of England is 143 litres per day.
But we can all do better. Looking at my account tho...
I'm feeling rather smug 🤣😎
