On my way to an organ concert at Loyola, I decided to try for the hooded mergansers at West Ridge Nature Park. Stopped at the river at Legion Park on Bryn Mawr and was delighted by a belted kingfisher hunting successfully in the river. Got my mergansers & a few juncos besides. #birds #Chicagobirding

I finally got to see the long-tailed duck at Montrose Harbor yesterday. I walked my legs off to get to it from the fish hook, but it was worth it. Such a beauty! #birds #ChicagoBirding #birding
If you missed the snowy owls at Montrose Point, here's what they looked like. #birds #Chicagobirding

Excited to report I saw a nonbreeding female snow bunting at Montrose today. It was drinking water at the original water feature. I could not have been more surprised to see it! #birding #birds #Chicagobirding #MontrosePoint (not my photo, just used for illustrative purposes)
Ooh, I'm pretty sure this is an Orange-Crowned Warbler I spotted in the brush in Indian Boundary Park yesterday. Wasn't a fan of sitting still out in the open. This was the best shot I got.

I saw a brown creeper (immature, I think) on the ground at State and Hubbard in Chicago yesterday afternoon trying to find a foothold on a metal barrier. After a bit, it flew to a light pole and hung on for a bit, then flew off. I hope it found a tree. (Not my photo.) #birds #Chicagobirding #birding
Not a big birding spot, Harms Woods yielded some nice finds, even at midday. In 45 minutes, I saw/heard 10 species, most of them warblers. #birding #Chicagobirding #birds #warblers #HarmsWoods
