I found this in an old sewing box I bought. I believe it's Chinese. Can anyone translate it for me? I did an image search on Google for it, but came up blank. #Chinesewords #Chineselanguage #Chinesetranslation

Wrote my attempt at translation of ‘deer park’ by Wang Wei. I think I will play with it for ever, trying to come to a better sound and a closer meaning. I’ll put it in a reply below. I would love to have other peoples translations attempts and thoughts on the poem. #chinesepoetry #chinesetranslation

Viktor T. Toth:
After noticing that all the authors have Chinese names, and with the help of one of our AI friends, I think I was able to make sense of what happened. The authors mistranslated "Abstract" as "抽象" (chōuxiàng) in Chinese, which does mean "abstract" but in the sense of "abstract concept" rather than "summary of a paper". They then literally translated 抽 (chōu), which can mean "to pump" and 象 (xiàng), which can mean "elephant". I think the shame is not so much the authors' but the apparent complete lack of copy-editing and editorial supervision at the journal. Even so, I'll be sorely tempted to use "Pumping elephant" in my future publications...
