Black and white photograph of a foggy December morning landscape along Clear Creek Trail in Coralville, Iowa. The trail in this section is a double-wide concrete path bounded on either side by tall trees and undergrowth except for a strip along each side where the undergrowth is regularly mowed. The trail starts in the bottom frame, turns to the right and then sharply to the left about mid frame where it disappears behind the trees and undergrowth. The trees and undergrowth have lost all their leaves and are darkened by the moisture in the air as well as the denseness of the growth. The path is well lit and where the path disappears the trees are brighter due to light diffusion from the fog, the distance from the viewer, and less dense growth allowing in more light from the bright gray sky above. The areas in the foreground are in sharper focus than those in the background which are also more vague and ghostly due to the denser fog that surrounds them.

Photograph of three liverwort plant (Anemone hepatica) blooms atop long stems that emerge from the detritus next to a tree trunk that is covered in patches of green moss. The species has brown-purple, lobed leaves that, in this case, are nit visible. Its flowers top long, purple, hairy stems and are composed of purple-green sepals that support six pale purple to white petals that radiate from a center with white stamens and anthers and a green pistil.

Here's another shot of that lovely liverwort from yesterday (previous post☝️). I took this with my 200-500mm wildlife lens. Gonna try to get back to #ClearCreekTrail with the macro lens so I can get closer/better detail.

Popping in from hiatus to post this beauty. This is liverwort (Anemone hepatica) & it's one of my absolute favorites. I look for it in early #spring on #ClearCreekTrail . Usually find 1-2 plants but this yr found a whole patchπŸ‘.

Vertical photograph of a very large sycamore tree next to a small dirt walking trail with brush and trees on either side and a blue sky above. The sycamore may have begun as two trees but if so they are now fused. The branching in front rises vertically around 15 ft before sharply turning horizontally and to the right with a large perpendicular but still horizontal branching coming off it to the left creating something like the corner of a box frame. The branching in the rear rises vertically and towers above the front branching.

Photograph of the same tree as before but a closeup on the horizontal branching in the front portion of the tree. The view is from below and the branches directly overhead are 1-2 ft diameter.

Came across this amazing tree (American sycamore I believe) on #ClearCreekTrail so I though I'd post it for #ThickTrunkTuesday . At first I though it was two trees but if they were once they're fused now. The tree/branch in the rear was roughly 5-7 ft diameter.
