Remedy and Reparations for Climate Harm: The Human Rights Case (November 2024) - Center for International Environmental Law CIEL new report sets out the legal basis for demanding that States and corporations uphold their obligations to provide redress formounting climate harm.

Several rich countries such as US and Germany claim that only the UNFCCC applies & that individual States can’t be held accountable for #ClimateHarm.

The ICJ must expose such legal non-arguments, taking into account the full body of applicable law.

Under the UNFCCC, rich nations continue to deny their obligations related to the #RightToRemedy for #ClimateHarm, but the global climate regime does NOT define or limit pre-existing legal obligations (see 👇).

👀 Even now, in front of the world's highest Court, they continue these attempts.

The ICJ can help break the UNFCCC's inertia, especially regarding #ClimateAccountability.

For far too long, climate negotiations have failed to uphold obligations to redress mounting #ClimateHarm or #LossAndDamage.
