Die interessante Beobachtungen, die ich in den letzten Jahrzehnten tat, ist: Je östlicher, desto klarer und heller der weiße Teil und stärker der Schwarz-Weiß-Kontrast.

A Hooded Crow perched and photographed from the back. It has its head turned towards me and is ready to fly off if I come any closer.
The #HoodedCrow is quite familiar for the rest of #Europe, but only occasionally seen in Western Europe, mostly during the Winter. Just like their black family members, loudmouths that will eat about anything they can find.

A great or hooded crow, seen in Ireland, July 2024. This crow is very similar to the carrion crow, which is completely black, and was only declared to be a separate species in 2002. The two species have different geographical ranges, with the hooded crow being present in Scotland, Ireland and Scandinavia, Central Europe and the Middle East. They will occasionally hybridize where the two species meet
A handsome hooded crow (Corvus cornix), only recognized as a distinct species from the carrion crow (Corvus corone) this century. Wikipedia says that the two hybridize but the offspring are less viable, hence the conclusion that the species are distinct. #hoodedcrow #birdsofireland #corvuscornix
