A great blue heron takes flight over the cresting waves of an ocean under a dim, overcast sky. Its large wings are spread wide in mid-stroke as it glides just above the water's surface.
On a visit to the Florida Gulf Coast several years ago, I wasn't having a lot of luck photographing this Great Blue Heron. I was quite surprised when I went through the images later and discovered this one.
