The #CrossbarryAmbush, occurring #ThisDayInHistory in 1921, was one of the bigger battles of the #IrishWarOfIndependence. ~1200 British troops tried to surround 100 #IrishRepublicanArmy (#IRA) volunteers in #CountyCork but failed — 10 soldiers and three IRA fighters were killed.

It was a stunning blow to British morale and a major boost for Irish resistance. The war was far from over, but on that day, the road to Irish independence seemed a little clearer.
