The #CrossbarryAmbush, occurring #ThisDayInHistory in 1921, was one of the bigger battles of the #IrishWarOfIndependence. ~1200 British troops tried to surround 100 #IrishRepublicanArmy (#IRA) volunteers in #CountyCork but failed — 10 soldiers and three IRA fighters were killed.

The first contingents of the Black and Tans began arriving in Ireland on 7 January 1920. Alongside the Auxiliaries, the Black and Tans went on to commit many of atrocities and terrorise the civilian population in Ireland.
