Book review – Elizabeth Fair – “The Mingham Air” #DeanStreetDecember24 I opened up Dean Street December to accept reviews up until the end of this Sunday, 05 January, which has also meant I can fit this review in myself. I finished reading this book at 11.20 pm on New Year's Eve, having (wickedly) included it in my stats (making them ever so neat at 99 fiction / 99 nonfiction) assuming I was going to finish it. This is my eighth review for Dean Street December 2024, so I've completely outdone my own total last year, and bringing the total up to 49 reviews so far!

Book review – E. R. Punshon – “There’s a Reason for Everything” #DeanStreetDecember24 This is my seventh review for Dean Street December 2024, which means I've very much outdone my own total last year, and we're up to a total of over 40 reviews now! This Golden Age Crime novel was offered as a free ebook earlier in the month so I thought I'd give it a go (I do read the odd old crime novel and have done a DSP one before, though not by this author). We're reading books published by Dean Street Press, the indie publisher devoted to finding and republishing good fiction and non-fiction this month.

Intent is everything: Reading "Harlequin House" for #DeanStreetDecember24 I came across the attached passage. I've read the very same sentiment expressed IN EARNEST, in other #middlebrow books and raged at it. Because I know Ms Sharp definitely did NOT mean it, I laughed at this

The fact that I very literally laughed out loud at the opening SENTENCE of "Harlequin House", my 15th and final book for #DeanStreetDecember24 , fills me with hope & dread:

Hope that the book stays this funny, dread that it might not.

4.75/5 @thestorygraph.com for "Crossword Mystery" by E.R. Punshon, book 10 of my #DeanStreetDecember24 A fun story with lots of Macbeth allusions, and a crossword that stumped me. Also lots of gold, Nazis on the periphery, and an utter meltdown at the end.

I've been reading "The Crossword Mystery" really slowly, since Curtis Evans intro to the @deanstpress.bsky.social edition I'm reading called it fair play. I've just found out he lied. It's a locked room, and I ain't @tommeadauthor.bsky.social so that's UNfair play 🙂 #DeanStreetDecember24

An unfilled crossword puzzle.

An unfilled crossword puzzle.

Looking forward to seeing if I can fill any of this in - a VERY unexpected feature of #DeanStreetDecember24. As to which of the @deanstpress.bsky.social books I'm reading features an actual crossword? It's a mystery! (to me, the game commences)

Wow! Curtis Evans intro for @deanstpress.bsky.social "Crossword Mystery", the third Bobby Owen and my tenth #DeanStreetDecember24 book, was SO VERY GOOD that it stopped me from starting the book!

(It's 23:37 here and the intro persuaded me to wait until both neurons are at least half awake) 😴😁
