Palestinian Prisoner Affairs Commission and the Prisoners' Club:

The death of the injured prisoner Mohammad Jabr from Dheisheh Camp

Ramallah – The General Authority for Civil Affairs informed the Commission of Prisoners and Ex-Detainees Affairs and the Palestinian Prisoners' Club of the death of the injured prisoner Mohammad Yaseen Khalil Jaber (22 years old) from Dheisheh Camp, Bethlehem, on Saturday, January 18, 2025. As of now, no details are available about the circumstances of his death.

The commission and the club clarified that martyr Jabr had been held under administrative detention since December 11, 2023, and was imprisoned in Negev Desert Prison prior to his death.

The commission and the club noted that Jabr was a former injury victim, having sustained a severe abdominal wound a year and a half before his arrest. At that time, a portion of his intestines was surgically removed, and he was detained while requiring intensive medical care.

They further stated that with Jaber’s death, the number of dead among prisoners in Israeli occupation prisons since the beginning of the war of extermination has risen to 56 Palestinians whose identities are known.

This figure marks the highest in history, making this period the bloodiest in the history of the prisoners’ movement since 1967. The total number of known prisoner deaths since 1967 has now reached 293, excluding dozens of detainees from Gaza who remain forcibly disappeared.

Notably, Jabr is the sixth administrative detainee to die in Israeli prisons since the start of the war of extermination.

The commission and the club stressed that Jabr’s death represents a new crime in the record of Israeli atrocities, which have escalated to unprecedented levels since the beginning of the ongoing war of extermination. They affirmed that what is happening to the prisoners is a humanitarian catastrophe and another face of the war of extermination, aiming to carry out more executions, assassinations, and liquidations against prisoners and detainees.

The statement highlighted that the increasing number of deaths among prisoners and detainees will become even more dangerous over time, as thousands remain held in occupation prisons and are subjected to systematic crimes, including torture, starvation, physical assaults of all forms, medical neglect, sexual abuse, and intentional exposure to conditions that cause serious and contagious diseases. In addition, unprecedented policies of deprivation and confiscation are being implemented.

The commission and the club held the occupation fully responsible for the death of the prisoners and renewed their call for the international human rights system to take effective steps to hold the leaders of the occupation accountable for war crimes against the Palestinian people.

They called for the imposition of sanctions on the occupation to isolate it internationally and restore the fundamental role of the human rights system. They demanded an end to the state of alarming inaction in the face of the war of extermination and the exceptional immunity granted by colonial powers to Israel, shielding it from accountability and punishment.
