A male peacock stands with its tail fully fanned out in a wide semicircle, filling most of the frame. The bird’s head and neck are bright iridescent blue, with a small upright crest and white markings around the eye and beak. Its train is covered in dozens of “eye” patterns in blue, gold, and green, creating a dramatic display against a muted outdoor background. The ground beneath is wet and slightly muddy, suggesting an outdoor park or sanctuary setting.

Colour postcard version of monochrome image of the cooling-room taken on the baths' opening day. In the centre of the room four chairs stand round a table with newspapers and magazines. To the left is a weighing machine. On each side are changing cubicles with blinds and lattice-shaped designs below. The cubicles have horseshoe shaped arches, as does the central opening into the plunge pool and hot rooms. On either side of the opening are half-sexagonal shaped tables with plants and a mirror.

A group of the polychrome glazed tiles which decorate the walls of the hot rooms and elsewhere inside the baths.
Postcard photograph of the baths building designed by the Edinburgh architect Hippolyte Jean Blanc, and built at a cost of around £45,000. Its grey stone-faced exterior in Classical Revival style is in sharp contrast to the interior's faux Moorish appearance.

The baths closed in 2008 & the rooms 'repurposed'. 🗃️ #C19th
The peacock stands prominently in the foreground on a paved ground with subtle stone textures, facing slightly left toward the extended human hand. Its iridescent blue neck and head feathers shimmer with intricate eye-like patterns in deep teal and emerald hues, while a few wispy crest feathers fan upward from the top of its head like a punkish tuft. The bird's beak is pale yellow-gray, slightly open, with a focused black eye gazing curiously at the hand; its body displays the classic plumage of rich blue upper feathers transitioning to a long, ornate train of bronze-green ocellated feathers edged in black, partially visible and dragging slightly on the ground. A large, pale hand with short nails and visible knuckles reaches from the right side of the frame, fingers splayed wide and palm upturned in a gentle petting motion, lightly touching the peacock's cheek or neck area without startling it—the peacock remains calm and majestic.
