Our journal was mentioned at #ECN2025 as our author Lily Hart discussed the importance of linking research articles to GBIF data.
The paper referenced in her slide is this one: doi.org/10.3897/BDJ....
Today, our editor-in-chief Deborah L Paul is at #ECN2025 to represent our journal - make sure to ask her about us if you're there!
A very happy author stopped at #ECN2025 to talk to our representative at the @pensoft.net stand!
You can read @cristianbeza-beza.bsky.social's ZooKeys paper on the phylogeny of Yumtaax beetles here doi.org/10.3897/zook...
Photo of “Larvae of Insects” part 1 and part 2 by Alvah Peterson. These are blue hard bound books with cold lettering.
Photo of “Freshwater Springtails of North America” by Walz and McCafferty. It is a tan soft bound pamphlet with an illustration of a collembola on the cover.

Won wonderful treasures during the #ECN2025 silent auction.
Steven Hammer, one of our regular collection users, co-developed a new #insect pinning block, with staff and volunteers from the museum.
It’s 3D-printed and open source, so you can try it for yourself:

Ready for day 2 #ECN2025
Volunteer tasks in the entomology department. Starting with pinning/sorting, then databasing, organizing and finally photography.
Level of task difficulty. Starting with training wheel moths, followed by complex data and ending with the everything drawer.
Back to Genevieve with a talk about volunteers at the DMNS:
Nice seeing how roles & tasks are broken up, so that everyone (even those w/o ento. exp.) can contribute!
Love the message that "we all break bugs" - important to emphasis!
Curious what's on everyone's insect pinning playlist?🤔 #ECN2025
Jess Awad (@parasitoidrex.bsky.social ) uncovering hidden treasures in the Naturalis collections ( @naturalis.bsky.social )!
Each unassuming box contains new insect stories (more in ECN's thread): from tiny galls on delicate leaves, to the tale of notorious beetle image thief Oskar Vogt!

We're at #ECN2025 in Portland, Oregon!
We're passionate about entomological collections, which is why we published some of last year's ECN in a special topical collection: nhcm.pensoft.net/topical_coll...
Check out the @pensoft.net stand for our latest news!
Two mahogany cabinets, 20 drawers each with 1,675 insects. Donated by Riker's grandchild Marcia Rissland in 2000
Original patent for the Riker mount.

An example of Riker mounted moths at different life stages.
Original Riker mounts by inventor Clarence Riker held at @denvermuseumns.bsky.social , presented by Genevieve Anderegg! 😍
The cabinets are just as intricate as the insects held within!Though lacking in collection data, lots of educational & natural history research value once imaged!

Learning more about the prolific work of hymenopterist Lubomír Masner with Proctotrupoidea wasps & development of new collection tools!
Glad to hear my sewing hobby might come in handy haha - though mesh is super tricky! 🧵
Good message from Lubo: "Less computer, more collecting"!

Always looking forward to seeing some hidden gems from insect collections around the world! 🌐
(Btw shout out to @entcollnet.bsky.social for still having an online vers. of the event! ❤️ Means us folk who can't make ESA EntSoc can still join in on the bug fun!)

This was such a fascinating and uplifting story of the evolution of a collection. What Chris has managed to achieve for the Oregon State Arthropod Collection is remarkable. 🥹👏 #ECN2025
