A small black bee, feeding on a cluster of tiny white flowers, is seen from above and behind. Narrow bands of short pale hairs demarcate the abdominal segments. The rear legs are splayed out and down, and are covered in dense golden-yellow hairs. The folded wings are translucent pale brown.
The same bee is seen from the left side, and shows short golden-yellow hairs on the flanks of the thorax as well as on the hind legs.
Next up: the Halictidae (commonly called Sweat #Bees for their attraction to human perspiration) is a diverse & widespread family & the defining group for #eusocial behaviour. This is the Ligated Furrow Bee (Halictus ligatus), a frequent visitor to our #backyard #garden in #YorkRegion. #InverteFest
