I highly recommend this talk for anyone doing applied quantitative research! It was by far the best talk at #EuroCIM2025!

At #EuroCIM2025 I liked that people were often very explicit about their assumptions.

I liked less that often assessment of the assumptions was just "yeah it's probably fine". Then move on.

I don't like the binary nature of accept/reject.

Is moving to a subjective percentage confidence useful?

Another nice #EuroCIM2025 poster by Christiane Didden. She presents the Oaxaca-Blinder decomposition & how we think about the “explained” part of disparities—specifically in the context of the gender pay gap....

Catching up on my posting today... still have a few nice #EuroCIM2025 posters to share! Here is a neat one about barriers to integrating #causalinference methods into curricula & strategies to overcome these barriers...

This is me at every conference now. Although fear of being This Guy played a small role in my missing the student mixer with @dingdingpeng.the100.ci at last week's #EuroCIM2025.

#EuroCIM2025 : very nice applied work right this way... :)

The very first grant I wrote in 2016 built off of his work with Peter Buhlmann, Haussler, Eichler and others for IVs for casual discovery in neuroimaging via soft interventions.

Exciting to see how far we have come since then.

I had a great time in Ghent attending #EuroCIM2025!

I confess that most of the talks went over my head, but I had some very interesting conversations with some very interesting people.

Thanks to the steering committee & organisers (particularly @kellyvanlancker.bsky.social) for their hard work!

I've deleted a thread about #EuroCIM2025 because my wording was clumsy and it implied things that I did not mean to imply. Sorry!

Please enjoy this picture of Ghent Castle at night instead! 😊

It’s a wrap! My #euroCIM2025 take-away message is
1. People are working on causal inference topics that go waaaay over my head
2. Many applied researchers are still unaware of the heroic assumptions they make
3. Both groups need to make efforts to close this gap

As promised, here is a photo of a leige waffle (with caramel and an unnatural quantity of whipped cream)!

I am pleased that I managed to get one before heading home, but am now also feeling very full...

Thanks #EuroCIM2025! Great conference. Now coding up my first ipw for malaria inference on my way home. #StatsSky #CausalInference #CasualInference

About 2 head home from #EuroCIM2025 (wanted a chance 2 kiss my kids goodnight). My take-home messages:

1. A lot of amazing people work on cutting-edge causal inference problems.

2. We need to ensure that these advances influence applied research practices—which often still struggle with the basics

Heading home earlier than expected and sad to have missed most of #EuroCIM2025

Next time perhaps!

This was a tour de force and a rallying cry for translational methodology. A hugely refreshing and thought provoking talk for the #EuroCIM2025 audience. Thank you @dingdingpeng.the100.ci!

Tutorials are most useful when they also address substantive questions of interest. I think #episky also has some good sneak tutorial examples (which often serve as what Julia calls "template articles")! You can find her whole slide deck at osf.io/ujpsq (extra points for openness 🏆)

I really agree... Especially because domain subject-matter knowledge is so critical for causal inference. There is often little awareness of what's out there and making "first contact" with a field is so important. #EuroCIM2025

You know Pearl's causal ladder, but Julia introduced a different type of ladder : how can we get cutting edge causal inference methods into applications? #EuroCIM2025 so important!

Final talk of the day... By the fabulous Julia Rohrer aka @dingdingpeng.the100.ci #EuroCIM2025 definitely wins the award for best title slide thus far. (Anyone want to try to top it tomorrow morning??)

Another #EuroCIM2025 poster for #episky:
Elise Dumas presented "Inference on sustained treatment strategies, with a case study on young women with breast cancer" on behalf of colleagues from EPFL and France. Lots of interesting stuff to unpack here!...

There are some very interesting posters #EuroCIM2025! Sharing a handful here I thought might be of interest to #episky: #1 - "Confounding of the competing event in time-to-event analyses" by Jost Viebrock, Bianca Kollhorst & Vanessa Didelez.
This poster looks at "competing confounding", that is...

Looks like I'll be following the rest of #EuroCIM2025 from my hotel bedroom 😢

After feeling increasingly unwell yesterday afternoon/evening I had some pretty bad fevers overnight & am feeling really rough.

Attending #EuroCIM2025 highlights the terrifying chasm between the technical front end of causal inference and the state of causal inference in applied science.

People accuse me of making things too complicated. But I'm eating crayons compared with true 'causal inference methods' folk.
