Wtf #nyc it is March

Our sewers can only take 1.75”/hr — or 44.4 mm/hr.

It’s not Thunder flood time yet.

We’ve not even begun the springtime #extremerain

Schematic diagram of the physical mechanisms for the increase in rain rate of landfalling Tropical cyclone (TC).
The white spiral and yellow circle represent the simplified structure of the landfalling TC in North Hemisphere and TC’s vortex circulation, respectively. The orange vector (solid arrow) in front of the TC center indicates the moving direction (MVD) of the TC. Red curved arrows represent the vortex circulation of the TC (wind vector). Black upward arrows represent the vertical velocity of the TC. The cloud represents the asymmetric convection on the offshore side of the vortex circulation that contributes to the precipitation (white dashed lines). Blue and orange vectors represent the offshore (from land towards ocean) and onshore (from ocean towards land) flow respectively. The rainbow-colored bar, green bar, and yellow bar represent the differences in relative humidity, thermal differences, and frictional differences between the ocean and land, respectively.

 The NYC Emergency Management
Department advises New Yorkers to prepare
for potential heavy rain tomorrow, Thursday,
7/31 through Friday, 8/1. The National Weather
Service has forecast a total of up to 2 inches
of rain per hour. Total rainfall amounts of 1.5 to
3 inches is anticipated with locally higher
 amounts possible.
Periods of heavy rain may cause flooding in
 the city, including highways, streets,
 basements, and underpasses. During periods
of heavy rain causing flooding, seek higher
ground or, if in a basement, move to a higher
floor. City agencies have taken action to clean
catch basins and remove street litter in the
 event heavier rain occurs.

It was a scorcher today.
But tomorrow 7/31/25 is major rainfall #extremerain in #nyc in the afternoon through overnight.

The notify NYC says rain rates of up to 2”/hour. This is above the average drainage capacity of our nyc sewer system. (That means flooding.)

Be ready.
