When Face Recognition Doesn’t Know Your Face Is a Face An estimated 100 million people live with facial differences. As face recognition tech becomes widespread, some say they’re getting blocked from accessing essential systems and services.

It happens to me many times, so yeah. Sometimes it's annoying, and there's also fear.

Here’s why I am opting out of TSA facial recognition — and you should, too TSA envisions a future where our faces will serve as our unique digital marker. But not everyone is on board.

#FacialRecognitionTechnology is innaccurate, invasive, and ripe for abuse by anyone and everyone who uses it, especially the #TSA. Here’s why I am opting out of TSA facial recognition — and you should, too

UK government announces tender for live facial recognition technology The UK government has published a £20 million procurement for tech companies to provide live facial recognition technology (FRT) to police forces across the UK.

Don't panic, there's an easy solution to the rise of the use of #FacialRecognitionTechnology - just don't have a face.

#FacialRecognitionTechnology has been used to ban innocent shoppers who look like offender.

FRT doesn't stop crime in progress, it only helps stores ban repeat offenders. How else can stores protect staff and other shoppers from misbehaviour or crime at the time?
Retailers need other options.

Bunnings Australia releases CCTV of violent behaviour in stores The retailer is defending its use of facial recognition after it was found in breach of privacy laws.

1NewsNZ and 3NewsNZ report on #FacialRecognitionTechnology as tool to reduce illegal or antisocial behaviour in stores.

How does it stop bad behaviour?

FRT doesn't give security means to stop theft, or change behaviour. At most a store can ban people it identifies.

A week with facial recognition, and zero reporting back A senior police supervisor spent a week overseas looking into facial recognition technology, without producing a single report about it.

Would you like to spend a week in New South Wales Australia for work? No Written report required on return. OK for #NZPolice to have experts looking into #FacialRecognitionTechnology but No Report? Really?
Thanks to RNZ's Phil Pennington for another interesting tale!
