There was a farmer on #FarmingToday who said he was having to scrap his spuds because no one was buying them.
So obviously not planning to plant any next year.
Very sad.
I don’t like animal hunts and am glad it is already banned. But in terms of priority, fly tipping is far more prolific (1m+ incidents, nearly 2m tonnes) and damaging to animals.
The recent raised fines were pathetic and will change nothing.

have all mentioned #TheArchers but I don’t think ever vice versa.
In #FarmingToday AI might mean Artificial Insemination, Artificial Intelligence or Avian Influenza. Confusing.

Refreshing to hear young farmers so enthusiastic about their industry. #FarmingToday #r4today
Farm vets recruited from Europe have halved since Brexit, 1000 to 500 a year. Interesting to see how many left because of it. #Farmingtoday
Also #FarmingToday
'Since the UK left the single market the new Customs checks on farming products cost exporters millions of pounds every year'
You could not make it up. Everyone else trades free of charge, the UK is back in the 1960s to that respect.

🌱 Following last week’s Defra announcement at OFC – which highlighted that there will be two SFI application windows this year, the first in June exclusively for small farms and farms without existing agreements – our CEO, Patrick Holden, appeared on #FarmingToday to discuss these changes.
Charlotte Church, on the radio has just said “Interrelationality”. I don’t think such a word exists, or if it does, it shouldn’t. She’s playing at being a New Age farmer though, so I suppose we have to let her off, but she should stick to warbling.

Don’t miss the brilliant John Redhead today at #ORFC2026 talking about future crops and @ukceh.bsky.social rice trials from the #agzeroplus programme. Great to hear conference manager Hester van Hensbergen looking forward to this on R4 #FarmingToday ⬇️
Some casual hatred of Brussel Sprout lovers (like me) thrown into #BBCRadio4 #FarmingToday this morning. Disgraceful at this seasonal time of year. 😂 Where was the balance too - even the farmer growing the stuff admitted his family didnt like them. Shocking 😢
Now they are growing and harvesting mushrooms and truffles on the radio.
I’m all fungi-ed out, even threw the last few of them out last night.
It’s all South East Asian flavours for the foreseeable now.

Henry: “How about someone who knows the farm, is totally available, and you could probably get cheap…”
Helen: “Charlotte Smith off of #FarmingToday?” #TheArchers
Will: “Amber was up before 5 this morning.”
Clarrie: “Why? Was she doing a shift on #FarmingToday?” #TheArchers
Lily: “Charlotte Smith, off of #Countryfile and #FarmingToday (don’t forget to tune in), hi! It’s so lovely to meet you!”
Charlotte: “Lovely to meet you too, Lily Pargetter off of #TheArchers!”
Not sure why comparable speciality cheeses in Italy cost a third than those in the UK. #farmingtoday
It's Charlotte Smith off of #FarmingToday!
She's definitely got a face for radio.
#TheArchers
Thank you, #TheArchers tweetalongers. I’m off to look at a carrot in a tent with Charlotte Smith (of #FarmingToday and #Countryfile, don’t forget to tune in at 18:15 for a #Countryfile #TheArchers special, with Charlotte Smith of #FarmingToday and #Countryfile). See you next week!
Azra: “When we first moved to Ambridge, I put the radio on and listened to #FarmingToday every morning.”
Lily: “NO, Dr Malik! NEVER listen to Radio 4! You’ll get trapped in a metafiction paradox feedback loop!” #TheArchers
Lily: “Let’s book a celebrity judge! I have got Charlotte Smith standing by. You know, off of #Countryfile and #FarmingToday. (Countryfile is doing a #TheArchers special later, so the BBC is keen for the cross-marketing opportunity.)”
Hmm. Azra, as a GP in a rural/farming community, should be talking to #FarmingToday about farmers mental health, about the lack of midwifery &, even more so, Health Visitor services in rural areas.
And the fact that, as a village GP, the surgery is probably open 4-8 hrs pw.
#TheArchers
Adam: “Why don’t you call Stella now? She gets up early to listen to #FarmingToday.”
Brian: *ring* “Morning!”
Stella: “OMFG do you know what time it is? You woke me up you utter b***ard!”
Adam: *innocent face* #TheArchers
Why is #farmingtoday allowing the global warming policy foundation to come on and answer softball questions about their battery alarmism.
Why anyone got the global warming policy foundation at all at this stage after a decade of being proved wrong about everything
#bbc #farmingtoday runs a story about battery energy storage systems being built on farmland. who do they interview? a local resident opposed to the development, and a guy from the GWPF #ffs www.desmog.com/2021/05/19/o...

Blaming the government for not helping financially? Sounds like a Brexit problem. #R4Today #FarmingToday
But they do mention it on #FarmingToday.
