An unhoused man sleeps on his personal belongings inside the National Debt bus stop on the corner of K Street NW & 18th Street NW in Washington, DC on Inauguration Day 2021.
It certainly feels as though this photo is metaphor of my future.
Life as an employee with the National Park Service has been extremely tough the last two months - hence the lack of posts here on BlueSky. I just saw our agency lose 1,100 dedicated people resign/retire this past week for fear of being terminated in the coming weeks.
Im still standing, but suspect I'll be one of the thousands of "casualties" set to be announced in the coming weeks.
This has been my dream job, and it has been an honor to serve as our nation's historic documentation photographer; walking in the footsteps of names like Evans, Lange, Parks, Lee, Lowe, Boucher, etc.
Sadly, it feels like the sun is setting on my agency and this great tradition of government documentation. My heart is heavy with sadness and I'm still coming to grips with this reality.
I will pick up the pieces, and vow to continue documenting American life, even if it means doing it departed from my beloved agency.
Keep your eyes open. I'll be posting here more often in the future. Much love to the BlueSky photography community.
