Silver Dualism. Within the Orthognost, life is split in two halves: the Magnetic Animus, and the Occult Animus, loosely the body and mind, associated with the physical Fundament and the divine Firmament. The Magnetic Animus is the "life force" that separates living matter from dead, drawing energy from food and water, ceasing and dissipating upon death. The Occult Animus is the "higher mind" that separates the Kindred peoples from animals. Each person's Animus is writ upon the Star under which they were born, a part of its immortal essence. There is debate among Astronomic scholars on the existence of the Soul, whether it would be a part of the Magnetic or Occult Animus, or indeed a third part in itself. Likewise there is debate as to the source of the Third Hand, though the majority holds it is a part of the Magnetic Animus as there are animals that manifest similar invisible forces or powers.
