One of the standout #shorebirds of any tour here in The #Gambia is the stop-the-clock gorgeous Egyptian #Plover - we ended up venerating 14 different amazing individuals!

Storm #Claudia brought record Leach's Petrels to The #Straits this week!

We ventured north with Spanish Imperial Eagle on the edge of the storm on the #Llanos and an awesome encounter with the largest Dendrocopos Woodpecker - White-backed Woodpecker in northern forests

The local #Vulture colonies are jumping at the moment with young Griffon Vultures making their way to The #Straits to cross to Africa!

Among the masses we found two critically endangered vagrant immature Rüppell´s #Vultures ! #FlywayBirding

Our guests were under c.5 metric tonnes of Griffon Vultures gathering overhead to cross The #Straits yesterday!

556 Griffon Vultures crossed with Egyptian Vulture, Short-toed Eagles, Booted Eagle, Osprey and a juvenile European Honey Buzzard.

This ringed Caspian #Tern we encountered recently on our #BirdingTwoContinents #Tour on the fabled Merga Zerja lagoon in #Morocco was ringed as a chick on the Kvädö peninsula in Sweden! 3,101km away, 7 years and 118 days before our observation!

Arrival day for our guests yesterday and our first area to explore on our #Ronda and The #Straits tour is the #mountains!

We encountered with glee on our #BirdingTwoContinents tour this week the stunning 𝐌𝐚𝐠𝐡𝐫𝐞𝐛 𝐎𝐰𝐥!

On mtDNA it has been shown to be sister to the fairly genetically homogeneous Tawny Owl of Europe. This species is darker and markedly larger than Tawny Owl with a 20% bigger wingspan.

Yesterday our guests were out in The #Straits as migratory raptors crossed over Long-finned Pilot Whales and Bottlenose Dolphins, our lunch spot was swarmed with migrating European Bee-eaters and a late afternoon encounter with the ultra rare - 2 Rüppell´s Vultures!😎

A flow of migratory mayhem with European Honey #Buzzards flowing overhead + Booted and Short-toed Eagles, Black Kites, Egyptian #Vultures, Montagu´s & Marsh #Harriers, an Eurasian Goshawk! Finally encountering the adult Rüppell´s Vulture 😎

Our #SwiftWeekender tour has been going great! We encountered the speediest 2 White-rumped #Swift just overhead, organic vineyards full to the brim of glorious singing Rufous-tailed Scrub Robins and the absolute bedlam of the early morning Little Swift colony!

Inland waterways also held glorious Whiskered #Terns drifting over a myriad of #Shorebirds as masses of Greater Flamingoes painted the lake pink!😊

Among the flow of European Honey #Buzzards arriving to Europe with 411 logged crossing in front and over us! Joined by the last arriving Short-toed and Booted #Eagles as Fin #Whales passed to the west underneath their crossings!

Carefully selecting watchpoints ensured we have been in the thick of #FlywayBirding with Booted #Eagles dominating the crossing! joined by Short-toed Eagles, Black #Kites, Egyptian #Vultures and Montagu´s and Marsh #Harriers right in the face!

Another fab day tour here of #FlywayBirding for our two guests from 🇩🇪

Now at the peak of Booted Eagle spring migration as over 500 passed just overhead.

Short-toed Eagles, Black #Kites and returning Griffon #Vultures also battled the divide and European Bee-eaters are suddenly everywhere!

Last night and this morning thousands of Black Kites have been crossing with the gaps in the storms here in The #Straits

Alongside them Short-toed #Eagles, Egyptian #Vultures and Black #Storks now arrive with Pallid Swifts cruising in along the edge of the front!
