To the Folger Library tonight for a play, A ROOM IN THE CASTLE by Lauren Gunderson. It fits into the spaces in HAMLET: Queen Gertrude, Ophelia, and Ophelia's nurse Anna talk about the events of the original play, try to figure out what's wrong with Hamlet, and then how to keep themselves -- […]

Features that I appreciate about the #FolgerLibrary, part 2. The custom book supports are a librarian's dream: adjustable, collapsible so they don't occupy as much space as traditional foam supports. The desks? Some are static, but here you can see one of the adjustable set-ups. Stand if you wish!

Laid out on a light wood desk in front of the edge of a laptop: a red pencil, a white eraser, a small clear plastic magnifying glass, a clear plastic ruler (5") a book bound in brown spotted leather similar in height to the ruler.

As a librarian, I pay attention to a lot more than the content and materiality of books and archives when I do research. I think about the extras a library offers that make things easier for researchers to do their job well.

Thank you, #FolgerLibrary!

Another view of the dramatic fall of Julius Caesar, depicted in a stone bas-relief of Shakespeare’s play about the plot to assassinate Caesar. He is looking up at Brutus, who still holds the knife, as if to utter his dying words, “Et tu, Brute?” Folger Shakespeare Library, Capitol Hill, Washington, DC. (August 2024)

One of many stone bas-reliefs showing the plays of Shakespeare. The tragedy Julius Caesar is about the conspiracy to kill Caesar to keep him from becoming a ‘dictator for life’. Caesar lies sprawled at the feet of Brutus, who still holds the knife, while three other men in the conspiracy are already to move on. The Folger Shakespeare Library is on Capitol Hill, right across from the Senate. Washington, DC (August 2024)

Here’s my tribute to the Roman consul Julius Caesar. Shakespeare saw parallels between the political uncertainty of Caesar's time and Queen Elizabeth I's reign. He’d have had a field day with Trump’s power grab and the violence that followed. #FolgerLibrary #DC

Apropos of nothing…

Just realized that the #Shakespeare paperbacks from the #FolgerLibrary are in the shape of the #GoldenRatio.

6.75 divided by 4.19 equals 1.611

Very close to 1.618
