My multimedia artwork is on a toned cyanotype of a misty bay with forest across the water and cloudy or misty skies. In black I Lino block printed a three-masted ship in grey, with Jolly Roger flag in black, overprinted with flames in reds and orange. Hand-lettered script in black there is a stanza of the poem, βThis is the tale of the phantom light That fills the mariner's heart, at night, With dread as it gleams o'er his path on the bay, Now by the shore, then far away, Fierce as the flame in sunset skies, Cold as the winter moon that lies On the Baie des Chaleurs.β from βThe Phantom Light Of the Baie Des Chaleursβ by A. W. H. Eaton
#ArtAdventCalendar day 20: a #FolktaleWeek2024 piece. I thought I would tell another Canadian #folktale about a flaming ghost ship or strange light phenomenon which has been observed in New Brunswick in the Baie des Chaleurs. There are a few different versions of the folklore but the one I like is
My 9.25β x 12.5β linocut print on ivory washi with collaged papers illustrates Thumbelina. The tiny girl printed in black with her hair streaming out behind her swoops in on the back of a swallow in black, and blue with a red chin. Below her a tiny flower fairy prince in a crown with wings stands in a flower and reaches towards her, printed in gold. The base of the print is covered in large flowers in pink, peach, yellow, orange and violet with green stems and leaves. The rest of the print is framed with apple blossoms in pink on white with green leaves.
Day 19 #ArtAdventCalendar: my #linocut of Hans Christian Andersenβs fairytale Thumbelina (Tommelise) I made for #FolktaleWeek2024.
In my illustration with collaged Japanese papers, Thumbelina rides the swallow, narrator of our tale, at the moment she finally meets someone her size & to her liking
My Lino block print on white 8β x 10β Japanese paper each with a rooster viewed from the side. The rooster has a red crest, brown body and feet with blue and green under- and tail feathers. Thereβs a little green grass by its feet. One foot is lifted like itβs walking forward. Thereβs a little man who is hedgehog from the waist up, wearing boots, pants and a vest, holding bagpipes riding the rooster like a horse.
#ArtAdventCalendar day 14: a print I made the 4th #FolktaleWeek2024 prompt trail. I thought of the fairytale Hans My Hedgehog, who knew all the right trails. I love the absurdity of a half-hedgehog man riding a rooster and playing the bagpipes. π§΅

Screenshot of Yvie's iPad using the Adobe Fresco app. Tools are on the left side, page layers are on the right side. Opened up on the left are the colour palettes and colour wheel. The rough sketch illustration on the main page is a zoomed-in view of the Mari Lwyd illustration on a street of colourful terraced houses. The Mari Lwyd is a horse's skull on a stick with ribbons and flowers, which is being held by a person under a white sheet. The Mari Lwyd is outside a house where the front door is open and musical notes and lights are streaming from it.
Tonight I was sketching about the Mid-Winter custom of #MariLwyd for #FolktaleWeek2024 in Fresco!
My last livestream on BΔhance is next week before moving on to the Twitch.
I've even started adding videos to the YouTube.
Feels like I'm doing something useful with my bed-living life.

A photo collage of drawings titled Basil and the Skull. It says written and illustrated by Clay Mil β24 hashtag folktaleweek on top and claymil.carrd.co and at claymil.bsky.social on the bottom. Image one shows a kid with a glowing skull in their backpack looking out from behind a tree in a misty wood. Image two shows the kid climbing stairs in a dark house, sleeping with the skull under their bed, and then waking up surrounded by mustard colored mushrooms. Image four shows the same kid following chicken tracks through a forest at night. Image five depicts the skull dropping down a hole and the kid following it into a tunnel and traversing multiple obstacles to make it out. Image six shows the kid returning the glowing skull to its family of glowing skull fenceposts. The final image reads βthe endβ and shows the kid holding their hand out to a baby version of baba yagaβs chicken hut to nuzzle. Art by Clay Mil.
Got around to compiling my #folktaleweek2024 story. My goal was to take a break from plotting and start each day with no plan and just see what happened!
