Garden Guardian found a Rabbit Hole! πŸš«πŸ‡

Luckily, no babies in there (yet).
Hopefully, this will encourage that dumb bunny to find a better nesting place.

Enjoy! πŸ’š

Hello! It's been awhile. Are you ready?

Hello! It's been awhile. Are you ready?

Spring is almost upon us! We've been quiet, but still working (and for this social media poster, resting) behind the scenes!

During this time, you can directly sow your seeds for some crops. Some examples are carrots, okra, spinach, and watermelon.

You can put a lot into your compost-- including poop! Chicken poop is especially high in nitrogen, which helps in the plant's photosynthesis.

Follow the link below for some #compost ideas!

Got Extra Potatoes? Here's how to plant them!

Have potatoes with little roots growing out of them? Those are called potatoes eyes, and they mean those potatoes are ready to be planted!

This works best in North Carolina during the fall and spring, but potatoes can be grown year round if they're in a cool area in your home.

Cut potato into chunks around each eye. Let them dry for a day or 2, or until they form a callus over where you've cut them.

You can plant them in large containers or directly in your yard. Wherever you plant them, make sure they'll get plenty of sun. If you're planting in the yard, place them about an arms' length away from each other. Dig down about 8 inches and plant them with the eye pointing up, then add extra soil on top in little mounds.

Water once a week until the leaves poking out of the ground look dry or yellow. Now they're ready to harvest and eat!

To allow potatoes to store better, keep them out of direct sunlight for two weeks after harvesting.

#Charlotte #FoodNotBombs received 800 pounds of #potatoes the past week! We created this graphic to share-- because if you can't eat them all, you can always plant them! #mutualAid #potato #foodNotLawns #sustainability #communityResilience

My beet, marigold, eggplant, onion, and leek babies did really well being in direct sunlight for a while today!
My fingers are itching to get them all in the ground. Late autumn harvest, here we come!

Lawns are no longer a status symbol. We need to be growing food. Anyone know of a #foodnotlawns movement in Kentucky?

Lawns don’t feed communities, gardens do!
Neighbors just knocked our doors asking to pick fruit, they came empty bags in hand lol. Mangoes aren’t ready yet, but passion fruit is overflowing.

We can reimagine our yards, grow abundance, & share!

Plant food, not lawns!

🌾 🌽πŸ₯” πŸ…πŸ§…πŸ₯•πŸ«›πŸ«‘πŸ₯’ are ALL going to be scarce as well as πŸ₯›πŸ₯š πŸ§ˆπŸ–πŸ₯“πŸ₯©πŸ—.
Take this seriously. If you CAN, slowly be stocking up on canned & frozen food. Bulk stuff is a better idea than ever.
And as always, if you CAN #growfood, you should!
#Community is critical right now. Grow together.
