Barefoot, he snuck to Ameliance's parlor in the next room, where the chest of letters lay. By feel and moonlight he picked out the sheaf of Alphinaud's letters and took them with him. He didn't dare turn on a light until he was several rooms away, far enough that the sound of papers shuffling wouldn't dare disturb anyone's slumber. And yet. Somehow. Despite what he considered to be a deeply overconsiderate set of precautions, by the time Fourchenault's intense focus on the letters was broken it was because Kuwagata was standing there in his study with two glasses of water. He was at least clothed in a fluffy bathrobe that left only an alluring gap around his chest, but his bared lower legs cast long shadows in the lamplight. "I don't...what are you doing awake?" Fourchenault raised an eyebrow at him, his voice a whisper. "Ah, couldn't sleep either," Kuwagata whispered back, smiling. "I thought you might want some company." Fourchenault gave Kuwagata a wary, squinting stare. The Warrior left one of the water glasses on the table nearby and took a seat in a nearby armchair that faced out to the pale yellow moon hanging heavy in the sky. Fourchenault tried to return to his reading. A proper Sharlayan would understand that he'd been shunned and eventually leave, but of course a foreigner wouldn't pick up on that delicate subtlety. Kuwagata just stayed in his chair, cup in his hand, head tilted slightly upward to the window. Ignore him, ignore him.
