In 2025, 50% of the globe experienced more days than average of at least strong heat stress – with “feels-like” temperatures of 32°C or higher. 🔥 At the same time, most regions saw fewer cold stress days than average.

In 2025, the annual average sea surface temperature (SST) outside of the polar regions ranked 3rd‑warmest on record. Monthly extra‑polar SST stayed among the top four throughout 2025, despite the absence of an El Niño event.

🌊🌡️ Sea surface temperature remained historically high throughout 2025, despite no El Niño conditions. It was the 3º highest on record (only 0.13°C below 2024 & 0.07°C below 2023). This makes 2025 the warmest La Niña year on record in terms of global air temperature and SST #GCH2025 #climate #dataviz
