I love this decorative vent cover on the outside wall of the Steps Bar on Glassford Street in central Glasgow.

Despite all the faff associated with the clocks going forward this weekend, it is nice to still have light in the sky at 8:15pm. Whether I'll still feel that way tomorrow morning is another matter entirely!

Built in 1884, the Scots Baronial details, like its crowstepped gables and corbelled eaves, give it a distinctive look for a tenement in the city.

A spray painted tribute to the comic character Oor Wullie. He sits on a bucket, his iconic pose. He wears a pink and green scarf, a pink and green party hat. The background is pinks, party balloons in green. Text says "90 years of Oor Wullie."
I quite like this tribute to Oor Wullie. Legal spray area in subway tunnel. Glad I took a picture, because when I passed the other way a few hours later it was gone. Some kids spraying football shite: knuckle dragging fuck wit ultras. Or something graceless and ugly. #postcard #glasgow

Following on from my post earlier on JT Rochead, here's his commercial block on St Vincent St. It was built in 1850 and was occupied for 150 years by John Smith & Co, the oldest book booksellers in the English-speaking world, having been founded in 1751.

She has the box open. Folds out the sheet that shows her the options. Then starts to tear open the foil blind bag with her teeth. Which is when her mum comes back. She grins from ear to ear and her mum laughs. They sit with hit chocolates, dipping marshmallows.

A young Muslim girl sits with her headscarf and rain coat, come in from the rain. She waits till her mum goes to get drinks to fish her prize from the shopping bag. I've no idea what it is, colourful box. She opens it carefully but enthusiastically.

10 Fitzroy Place. Google streetview shows that this unusual inner door looked even better when it was unpainted wood back in 2008. It also shows that the spectacular brass fittings survived into 2024 but have sadly now gone.

For me, one of the curiously satisfying views in Glasgow is the sudden eruption of this wonky gothic rocket above the houses of George Smith's 1840s Lynedoch Crescent.

Some absolute gold from 1970. Views of the city including Glasgow Central, the George V Bridge, Dundas St bus station, the old entrance to Queen St station, George Square, Sauchiehall St, and various others.Β
From the 1970 short film "Mirror", which features a young Bill Forsyth.Β

A Crumbling #Glasgow special for @darrenmcleanuk.bsky.social to explain.
This is Woodside Terrace - you'd think they, at least, could afford to maintain stuff. Second pic streetview in 2020 when they'd applied some sort of cheap unsightly gunk that's now fallen off.

"The Labour Party would like to think of themselves as a social democratic competitor of the SNP"
Hard to thole that nonsense when #Glasgow #Labour spent 40 hard years paying women less than men for comparable work done. Β£ Millions spent fighting working women keeping them "in their place" at GCC π
A Glaswegian version of the famous Athenian Tower of the Winds atop the 1890s Buchanan Street extension of the Athenaeum. I think it's by J.J. Burnet. It has lead scratched graffiti from (among others) 'G Dog 2007', "Andrew Gorman 98' and 'Skid Mark Bowden'.

Love the new public space which has been created at the historic Govan Graving Docks in Glasgow. For me, it has just the right mix of old and new to maintain its links with the past while still giving it a modern feel.

Born 212 years ago yesterday, John Thomas Rochead was an architect who, while not as prominent in the public consciousness of Glasgow as some, left an indelible mark on the city and across Scotland.
