The COSMAC 1802 microprocessor (1976) had approximately 5,000 transistors, and 16x16-bit internal registers. The MOS 6502 (1975) had even fewer transistors, yet went on to power most of the early PC era.

Huh. I've always considered the Motorola 6809 to be the first 8-bit AI processor. I may need to rethink that. And there's also the COSMAC 1802 - a true register wizard, and candidate as the first 16-bit AI processor. Forgotten too soon, as most pioneers are.

My 2 cents worth (although Canada got rid of pennies in 2012, so it rounds down to 0).
I'm not rich, but it isn't money that stops me from buying cool stuff, it's space. Anything bigger than a Pi Pico is hard for me to find desktop space for. USB peripherals and connectivity really help.

I had a cheaper calculator watch. It was like wearing the future on your wrist. Soon I was using a 6809 rig to write #GOFAI code (mostly industrial and aerospace). It seemed we were headed for the planets. But the dream died as the world fell into mindless sifting of eye candy. Alas.
