Got back in Little Ouse 3 km up from Gasthorpe, at Smallworth, hopefully upstream of Garboldisham sewage works. Swam 1 km up a lovely stretch of river (11.4°C), still no improvement in water quality. Will have to try further up another day.

Bright, brisk autumnal afternoon in a blessed reprieve from the rain.
Along the Iron Age Devil’s Ditch, an ancient oak, trunk split, forming an eye through which to view the Bronze Age round barrow on Garboldisham Heath.

From the Iron Age Devil’s Ditch, the only round barrow remaining at the Bronze Age cemetery on Garboldisham Heath, among ripened barley, rippled by a brisk southeasterly, hot yet invigorating. #IronAge #roundbarrow #Garboldisham #BronzeAge
Along the Devil’s Ditch, Garboldisham, the enticing dappled thrill of an ancient path about to be explored....
