The polar-orbiting UV satellites missed the start of the eruption, late yesterday afternoon, when lava effusion rates (and hence SO₂ emissions) were higher. Future #geostationary UV SO₂ data from #Sentinel4 on MTG-S should allow SO₂ detection both earlier & later in the day.
