A hollow in the ground viewed from a ridge looking down at an arable field
#Ghostpond or natural hollow? Probably the latter but always worth investigating.

A #ghostpond in the gloom. We resurrected this #pond about 8 years ago. As I approached I flushed 2 wild mallards & a snipe. Soon we will need to scrape out the bullrush - but the pond is still doing its thing lifting species populations in the farmed countryside
Can anyone help the wonderful @hayleymcmechan.bsky.social with this macrofossil from buried #ghostpond sediment? It has been a mystery for a few years in @uclgeography.bsky.social

Digging a buried #ghostpond in Norfolk farmland way back in 2013. The darker lower sediments are the muds from a pond filled in 70+ years ago. We now know that ghost pond ressurection may be the most successful form of ecological restoration known! @billsutherland.bsky.social
A solstice #ghostpond haunts a field with a forgotten name. As the veil thins water rises through soil warmed by the winter sun and the portal opens. Life stirs waiting for the light #solstice #christmasghosts
Happy Halloween freshwater fiends! Do you believe in ghosts? Nope. How about ghost ponds?👻
Please allow us to introduce you to a the amazing #GhostPond aficionado @carlsayer.bsky.social for inspiring ponderings on the incredible power of ghost pond resurrections!

The great Helen Greaves representing us at the Norfolk Biodiversity Partnership Community Biodiversity Fair today @theforumnorwich.bsky.social promoting ponds, #pond restoration & of course #ghostpond resurrection
1/3: The how & why of #ghostpond resurrection was the focus of a workshop that we ran for Norfolk FWAG & the Royal Countryside Fund this week in Cawston, Norfolk. Around 30 farmers saw 2 lost ponds brought to life
The magic of a resurrected #ghostpond just 3 years on. Nearly 30 wetland plants & Great Crested Newt where there was ploughsoil. This lost #pond was filled in >100 years ago but still had a viable seedbank 1.5 m below the field surface. The most successful form of ecological restoration known?
Hello @bsky.app. we are Norfolk Ponds Project - a science-led partnership NGO focused on pond restoration & #ghostpond ressurection. We aim to educate, lobby & inspire others on ponds. We used to Tweet & had 5000+ followers. ***Please follow & help us achieve the same here***!!!

Ghostponds are being resurrected in Northern Ireland. The story of a #ghostpond that is living again from the National Trust's brilliant @rangertoby.bsky.social
The Flush Scrape - this will be it's 2nd year. Heaving with inverts, pond weeds developing from seed Bank akd Smooth newt already moved in.
Suffering from a algae bloom in this dry winter and hot spring days. To he expected here given its history.

Excavating an ancient Norfolk #ghostpingo #ghostpond last summer. This year expecting 100s of species already in the pond that has resulted. Resurrecting lost ponds may be THE most successful means of freshwater nature recovery #ghostpond
2 years at a #ghostpond
Yowsah! Today we got a #postcard from Dr. Kathleen Carpenter, mother of freshwater ecology! But how do we tell her that her inspirational Pwll Seimon sampling site is now a "ghost pond" in #Aberystwyth? #creativewriting #naturewriting #envhist #HistSTM #ghostpond #nature #pond #biodiversity #Wales
Not many species in a #ghostpond before it is restored... I rest my case.
This Norfolk #ghostpond, was buried underneath a former pig field until 2 yrs ago. Here is the #pond 1 yr & then 2 yrs after we resurrected it for Norfolk Wildlife Trust. It supports >40 wetland plants including many local rarities & 1 very special one!!!
