Weren't we just talking about the #globalmedieval on #medievalsky? I love this type of research where the context and the purpose of the primary text is interrogated - and it becomes apparent that the text has been misunderstood by previous scholarship.
Medieval *European* cities were only a few sq kms in area. In contrast, medieval Chinese and Mesoamerican cities could be up to 50-80 sq kms, and Greater Angkor, a low-density engineered metropolis, was 3000 sq kms in the 13-14th c, 1000 sq km of that being urban.

Great to see another of my designed syllabi out in the world! "Global Medieval Heritage and Policy" asks students to think critically and expansively about the #globalmedieval in engagement with cultural heritage policy documents.

Very cool contemporary transcultural #medievalism fusion street art in Naha (Okinawa). #GlobalMedieval (or something lol)
I'm excited to see that @BloomsburyDigtl has a new resource page for "#Disability & Impairment in the #Medieval World!" An informative range of resources & materials for anyone interested in #DisabilityHistory & #GlobalMedieval matters....
I mean seriously it's striking to read 14c Muslims being like "this is what we understand about contagion, it looks like self-quarantine is good," etc. and meanwhile European Christians are all "Blame those hordes of Jews/Tartars" #MedievalTwitter #GlobalMedieval
Just reading 14th-century accounts of plague (for, you know, reasons) & it's revealing how Muslim writers were so much more "aware" re: disease transmission, ethics/effects of quarantine, etc. than European Christians being all paranoid xenophobic #MedievalTwitter #GlobalMedieval
Yay! Would love to see this IRL. #Jonah #MedievalTwitter #GlobalMedieval #FishAreNotBoring https://https://t.co/wzLkPBlhlb
I don’t know who needs to know about this but here’s a charming celadon glaze water dropper in the shape of a duck (Korea, Goryeo period, 12th century CE). #GlobalMedieval #MedievalDuck

Nancy Warren on “New World” forms of medievalism and Hispanic scholarship/cultural contexts for religious influences from the “Old World” — comparative project on colonialisms across Americas, esp. female monastic communities #nuntastic #GlobalMedieval #GMWConference2019
Mind abuzz at #GMWConference2019. Collaboration, silences, networks, privilege/power/marginalization, comparativism, solidarity, public/ private selves (in life/scholarship), giving ourselves permission to ASK ?s, find new partners/conspirators. #MedievalTwitter #GlobalMedieval
So excited — it starts TOMORROW! “Speaking Internationally: Women’s Literary Culture and the Canon in the Global Middle Ages” #MedievalTwitter #GlobalMedieval @BangorUni speakinginternationally.bangor.ac.uk/index.php.en

Someone really needs to write a book about how #Medievalism in board games has totally “gone global” #MedievalTwitter #globalmedieval
Excellent thread for #medievaltwitter. I respect public-facing work on manuscripts, but there were so many missed opportunities here. #globalmedieval https://https://t.co/LFXrUxpa0O
Some worlds beyond (multiethnic) Britain, #NCS18: maps of 14c Mali kingdom and Mamluk realms, 14c Persian #Shanameh MSS @AgaKhanMuseum; “Wahala Dey O” (Nigerian Pidgin English staging of Miller’s Tale by Ufuoma Overo-Tarimo) #globalmedieval #medievaltwitter
Glad I got a chance to visit the @AgaKhanMuseum during #NCS18. A reminder of just how wide and interconnected the premodern world really was. #globalmedieval #MedievalTwitter twitter.com/jonathanhsy/status/10189...
Centuries of #Islamic art: ceramic bowl (Iran, 11c), bronze astrolabe (Spain, 14c), mother-of-pearl tray (Gujarat, India, 16c), porcelain dish (Zhengzhou, China, 17c). @AgaKhanMuseum #globalmedieval #medievaltwitter
One of the most moving things about #ncs18 has been the prospect — and reality — of medieval European and indigenous/Native worlds sharing space, and not “facing in opposite directions.” This is the world in which I want to live, think, move #MedievalTwitter #globalmedieval
Fascinating how museum gift shops shape/reflect public ideas of the past. “Viking” & “Inuit” items on opposite shelves. Maybe someday we’ll see these worlds actually share the same space #ncs18 #MedievalTwitter #globalmedieval #allegoryforsomething
