Mouse almost miss this in the 'vestibule' of the #GoodrichGreatChamber. Bears an uncanny resemblance to a slighted C13 trefoil piscina. You often find a chapel let off a Great Chamber but this seems an odd location. Look at the drain. Is there another explanation? Odd height too.
Well now. That's an interesting feature in the 'vestibule' under the arcade. Kind of familiar. Discover Mouse's interpretation tomorrow! #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichGreatChamber: Part 6 of 6
A 'recreation' of the Great Chamber from the interpretation board. Mouse suspicious about the use of this space. No fireplace on the external wall for a start. If this was what it's claimed it would have been opulently furnished #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichGreatChamber: Part 5 of 6
Detail of the arches at the north westerly end of the Great Chamber showing quite how finely carved they are. We're not talking cheap here #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichGreatChamber: Part 4 of 6
Arcade from the basement level (which would have housed a kitchen and stores, perhaps) #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichGreatChamber: Part 3 of 6
Arcade leading to vestibule and 'Lady's Tower' (according to the interpretation) to the north-west #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichGreatChamber: Part 2 of 6
Fabulous C13 double chamfered pointed arches on central pier with moulded capital and corbelled responds. Mouse say: "Lovely"
From the gatehouse #HeidiAtGoodrich #GoodrichGreatChamber: Part 1 of 6
The Great Chamber, if that's what it was, would be the Nobles' private space. Also called a solar (somewhat outdated now) these chambers are usually found adjacent to a Great Hall (as apparently at Goodrich)
