Χωϱίς να το μάϑει ποτέ, εδάϰϱυσε, ίσως γιατί έ π ϱ ε π ε να δαϰϱύσει, ίσως γιατί οι συϕοϱές έ ϱ χ ο ν τ α ι. Απόψε είναι σαν όνειϱο το δείλι· απόψε η λαγϰαδιά στα μάγια μένει. Δεν ϐϱέχει πια, ϰι η ϰόϱη αποσταμένη στο μουσϰεμένο ξάπλωσε τϱιϕύλλι. Σα δυο ϰεϱάσια χώϱισαν τα χείλη· ϰι έτσι ϐαϑιά, γιομάτα ως ανασαίνει, στο στήϑος της ανεϐοϰατεϐαίνει το πλέον αδϱό τϱιαντάϕυλλο τ' Απϱίλη Ξεϕεύγουνε απ' το σύννεϕον αχτίδες ϰαι ϰϱύϐονται στα μάτια της· τη ϐϱέχει μια λεμονιά με δυο δϱοσοσταλίδες που στάϑηϰαν στο μάγουλο διαμάντια ϰαι που ϑαϱϱείς το δάϰϱυ της πως τϱέχει ϰαϑώς χαμογελάει στον ήλιο αγνάντια.
Without ever knowing it, she wept, perhaps because she had to weep perhaps because misfortunes are coming. Tonight the dusk is like a dream; tonight the vale remains bewitched. The rain has stopped; the weary girl lay down upon the sodden sward. Her cherry lips were parted, and her breathing is so deep and full that on her breast the freshest rose of April lifts and falls. Sunbeams slip out from behind the cloud and find concealment in her eyes; a lemon tree lets fall on her two drops of dew to rest like diamonds on her cheek so you'd think they were her tears that flow while she is smiling at the distant sun. translation © Andrea Christofidou & Peter J.
