I first learnt of Herschel as a young boy from seeing him on the #NewDeal-funded Astronomers Monument up at #GriffithObservatory in Los Angeles.

It was the New Deal’s Public Works of Art Project (PWAP - 1933-1934) that added the Astronomers Monument, a concrete homage to six great astronomers: Hipparchus (about 150 BC); Nicholas Copernicus (1473–1543); ➡️
