Despite cool north-westerly breeze reducing flying insects, it was good to watch Great tits, Blue tits & 2 Chaffinches either chilling or feeding on insects in the Goat willows or Cherry tree.
Nature does actually know best 😊

Having pulled muscles in my back from wee 2 much digging in heavy clay soil 4 orange-fronted demanding one, today was just a top-up-for-wildlife trip to refill; hemp bag w fluffed-up hemp string 4 nesters; pond 4 tadpoles & other aquatic life; water bowl 4 insects & ever-so-gently 1/2

Common Blue male #butterfly perched on tip of a #YorkshireFog inflorescence.
Some Lawn Care cos (NOT Lawn Association!) call this native an invasive grass in lawns 🙄.. it's the main food plant of 4 different butterfly species!

Walking along a path flanked by species-rich tall & short grassland that's teaming w insects is such a joy despite all the flies that seem to love my sweaty arms 🙄
If we emulated this in our many gardens, just think how it could support a host of creatures in jeopardy in this country!

#MaleBlackbird .. & father of three .. was making much fuss & mess in the tall grassy area of #allotment but not really getting even a snack 4 the youngsters.
Meanwhile, #ladyBlackbird went for my newly raked & watered seedbed.

Just don't take these common butterflies 4 granted as equally widespread ones in recent past have become scarcer. Grow their larval foodplants, native grasses & nettle, & give them room to bask!

Yet another Blue tit in the Goat willow pic ..
.. another great thing about this tree and willows in general is that they regrow well with either coppicing or pollarding control of growth and you get lots poles/stakes for you veg plot peas & beans!!
