There were two generations of Fates, one generation being among the Primordial Deities and the second being daughters of Zeus.

In this last issue of Classics Tutor for 2025, we delve into the profoundly ancient goddess, #Hera, Queen of the Gods, yes, but also a powerful, independent deity presiding over the cycles of nature.

Reading Hesiod’s “Theogony” one fine Chapman afternoon. Hesiod was the original “popularizer” of Greek Mythology, and his versions have been continuously in-print for thousands of years. #hesiod #theogony #greekmythology #heroesofolympus #chapmanu #dodgecollege #sagaftra #cesdtalent

whoever wrongs another also wrongs himself;
an evil plan is most evil for the one who makes it.”

“we know how to tell many lies resembling the truth; and we know, when we want, to utter what is true.”

I wonder if Hesiod really meant that because "wiggling her behind" is from the translator. Wiggling your butt just makes me think of the pee pee dance.

"They passed on several vivid and improbable stories about him--that he beat Homer in a singing contest, he committed adultery with a host's sister, and fathered the Locrian poet Stesichorus, that he was murdered for his crime, and that his body was thrown out to sea but brought back by dolphins."
I love how there's always ridiculous stories about the writers of Classical Greece. The writers become their own myths. When I die please send me to a bunch of Dolphins.

So for me this is discovery of a gay poet new to me, alongside his theological and social arguments and comments. I’m enjoying his Elegies a lot so far.

"Hope is the only good god remaining among mankind;
the others have left and gone to Olympus.
Trust, a mighty god has gone, Restraint has gone from men,
and the Graces, my friend, have abandoned the earth."

The Greek poet #Hesiod (750~650 BC) outlined The Five Ages in his poem „Works and Days“.
Hesiod thinks about man's role in the world—from the perspective of the little man; about right and wrong,about earning a living through serious work.

If you're paying attention my #ClassicsTober23 is #Pompeii & #Hercualneum based. I knew it would be a difficult: no Pandora. Why? My suspicion is myth (think #Hesiod) of early man not as popular as Homer. For day 11 Alma Tadema's Pandora (1881) b/c he painted loads in Pompeii.
