Maiking protective black salt with iron filings, ashes, and salt ground in a small mortar and pestle. A small black cast iron cauldron was the source of the iron filings. The resultant product will go through a black funnel and into a decorative glass jar. Black salt is said to ward off evil.

Yesterday I made a batch of black salt following the instructions from Cat Heath in her book, Elves, Withes & Gods. Cat says this is a powerful apotropaic--it wards off evil. I wish I had enough to wrap around the world.
