Two Tiger Hoverflies copulating on a bramble leaf. They are yellow and black, with longitudinal stripes on the thorax and transverse patterns on the abdomen. They have long, cream coloured faces, with a Roman profile and a central dark stripe, and very large black eyes. The male is noticeably smaller than the female, who is about 1.7cm long.

A fly on a leaf. This can be easily confused with a bee due to its color and many stripes. The fly is yellow with many black stripes. The head is small with two large dark eyes and very tiny antennae. The thorax has alternating vertical stripes--thin light yellow stripes and thick dark brown or black ones. On the abdomen there is a dark mark that looks almost like an hourglass and at the tail end it is mostly brown with several light markings like dashes. Its wings are clear with thin veining.
