Woman fights crocodile in attack A 25-year-old woman at Nkonke village in Tondoro constituency fought for her life after a deadly crocodile attack in the Kavango West region near the end of March. Kavango West Police regional chief inspector Raimberth Muronga has confirmed the incident. “It’s alleged that the victim was attacked by a crocodile from the front while washing her clothes in the river, resulting in her sustaining injuries on the right leg,” Muronga states. He says the victim is identified as Kayuru Masanga, and that she has been admitted to Nankudu State Hospital and is in a stable condition. Masanga’s mother, Lucia Ngave, says the incident terrified the family. “My daughter left the house with her siblings and children with the purpose of washing the children’s school uniforms and bathing them,” Ngave says. She recalls hearing a voice calling from the river, crying for help. “I asked my husband if he heard the same voice. He nodded, and we rushed to the river with axes, and other equipment to help,” Ngave says. Upon arriving at the scene, she saw her daughter covered in blood, but the crocodile was nowhere to be seen. “We rushed her home on that Sunday and it took us almost an hour to reach home. We only managed the next day to take her to the hospital because there were no vehicles,” Ngave says. The victim’s mother says Masanga is still in pain, crying most of the time due to the deep open wound. “She is enduring a lot and we don’t know what to do as she is still admitted to the hospital,” Ngave says.
