A triptych showing part of the annual Pacific Herring Spawn on Vancouver Island. This particular spawn was around Nanoose Bay, north of Nanaimo.

The top panel shows a wide shot of Wallis Point, with patches of cloudy, aqua-marine, turquoise waters where thousands of herring have expelled massive amounts of ovum and sperm.

The second panel is one of many commercial fishing boats that show up at active spawns to harvest Herring.

The third panel is a medium shot taken by drone, showing an overhead view of the milt and eggs combining in the sea water to make an oddly beautiful mix of blue, white, and turquoise.

Another triptych with different scenes from the Herring Spawn.

The top panel is an overhead shot taken by drone of the millions of gallons of milt and roe mixing with the shallow costal waters of Vancouver Island.

The middle panel is an underwater shot taken inside a school of Pacific Herring.

The bottom panel is a scientist, lowering a dip net into the water, and pulling up 20-30 herring for study.

Spent some time last week with scientists from the Pacific Salmon Foundation, filming and photographing their study of the annual #HerringSpawn on #VancouverIsland. Super cool experience!

Start-up emissions at B.C. LNG plants systematically underestimated, finds study Researchers say B.C. regulators have underestimated pollution by ignoring LNG terminal start-up emissions.

There has been under-assessing in environmental assessments of LNG projects.
Woodfibre LNG didn't pursue data or limited assessments. Provincial & Federal Govs led them. No consequences, but did get more Gov subsidies.
