Hex knows how to change a carriage wheel by SHB, but she doesn’t learn how to change a more advanced carlike tire until probably around the Eden raids, but still wouldn’t be crying over it.
I can see Ardbert walking her through it though⤵️
On another note, #Hexbert this time, I kind of wonder if Hex wouldn’t invite Ardbert to lie next her as often as she did if he had a physical form. It’d be nice to think he’s someone she’d always be comfortable sleeping next to though.

Hex is more amused than jealous of how Ardbert didn’t pick up on Lamitt’s strong signals (nvm that she often doesn’t pick them up either when someone’s trying to hit on her). In most cases, it’s how both Ardbert & Thancred perceive most others’ attempts with her.

The Pendants room. It was Hex & Ardbert’s private escape away from everything & even after Ardbert’s gone, Hex still holds a fondness for her/their room there.

Hex will often go for walk outside, trying to handle nightmares on her own.

She couldn’t really keep nightmares from Ardbert, but he didn’t bring them up outside of quick “how’d you sleep?” & other small ?’s, mostly leaving ball in her court (she’d get moody if pressed more).⤵️
Going to the First, WoL sees Ardbert & reaches out.
Ardbert wondering why WoL is the one who can see him: "But if fate has brought me to you - the one person in this godforsaken world who can see and hear me - then perhaps there is a reason I endured." Things are still tense between Ardbert & WoL at this time, but he's thinking about reasons you two must be tied together!
And then there's all the #Hexbert, where everything in MSQ is also such a beautiful treat! 🥲

#Hexbert - Ardbert is the mermaid, knowing his place is the sea but saddened it means he can’t touch the sailor Hex.
(Also this reminds me there was a pose I was working on for them for Mermay that crashed on me & I couldn’t retrieve my poses 😭)

Hex would be more the sacrificing type & Ardbert a raging burn the world type (what he wanted to do to the Source), though he does sacrifice himself for the world & then decides to again for Hex (does it count if he’s already dead?).⤵️

Hex helped Ardbert feel less regret for his choices & regain the ability to see hope in the world.
As for Hex, It's still a work in progress, but Ardbert influenced her to be more open about her needs & feelings, instead of trying to avoid them & she tries to take care of herself more.

She's born prematurely, due to events of IFTC. Since Hex's often tied up as by WoL duties & the consequences, & since Ardbert's obviously not around, she becomes the Scions' child.
She's closest to Thancred, who treats her like a daughter, despite how much she resembles Ardbert,⤵️
#Hexbert- There wasn’t a moment Hex could pinpoint as the moment she fell in love with Ardbert because her feelings for him just smoothly changed. There was never a moment she found herself suddenly becoming more affectionate to him; it just happened & she never seemed to question it.⤵️

Would they be considered Short Kings to Hex if Thancred and Ardbert are both average height male Middies?
Hex is an average height female Viera and both guys are a full 10cm shorter than her and that doesn't even account for when she's wearing heels!

After the fusion, they haven’t spoken to each other. Hex mostly adjusted to Ardbert’s death (the 1st death she could), but at 1st, she still tried to reach out to him, even blaming him for things to feel something from him, but wasn’t getting any responses.⤵️

#Rainwaters- The 1st time they met (omg!) when Thancred helped Hex up after Echo. She was startled by the physical contact & jumped back, yanking hand away.
#Hexbert- As soon as they realized they could touch (so fast!), Hex & Ardbert entwined their fingers together.⤵️

Thancred would ask since they’re both always on the road & Ryne seemed to have picked up a certain Viera’s habits, which makes it even worse.
Ardbert would ask too, but he’d probably enable her for a bit before realizing there’s no room. ⤵️
When I’m comparing #Rainwaters to #Hexbert, I will often refer to Hex/Thancred as Cloud/Tifa & Hex/Ardbert as Cloud/Aerith (I like both ships)
Thancred & Hex have to learn to grow together, they try to look out for each other but mess up constantly. With Ardbert however, things click very easily,⤵️

Ardbert will live longer in people’s hearts thanks to Hex’s efforts making sure the First remembers him & his party for their valiant efforts to inspire others.
Whereas she will let being “WoL” die, still helping people, but silently so whoever takes up her mantle can do so.⤵️
At first I was thinking: 1. Ardbert 2. Hex 3. Thancred because I usually stick Ardbert in the back position for these ot3 poses & 1 is very ARR Thancred (even if Hex wasn’t attracted to the playboying back then)
But: 1. Thancred, 2. Hex, 3. Ardbert would also be very good.

Crystarium dwellers would whisper about Hex’s sudden expressiveness as she’d reach The Pendants, though no one ever saw anyone leave.
It became almost a game to see if they could spot the mystery person (even trying to see if someone jumped out the window) but no one had luck.⤵️

#Hexbert- If canon didn’t happen, Ardbert would be adventuring & trying to solve the mystery right alongside Hex.
#Rainwaters- Thancred would split off from Hex to investigate separately, only showing up if Hex was in real danger.
#Hexbert- After the initial shock of both seeing someone so different, Hex & Ardbert decide to figure out where they are & end up on an adventure, both being very curious but fairly self-sufficient children.
Even if they’re both naive outside of their homes, they cover for what the other lacks
With #Hexbert, I thought Ardbert was annoying (there’s a pattern lol) esp thanks to HW & wanted him gone (which I reflected through Hex’s initial feelings). Then after meeting Emet-Selch, I made up some BS suggestive scenario to scare Ardbert & that happened to be when he & WoL start getting along.⤵️

#Hexbert - Hex & Ardbert’s 1st (& only) official date was after Hex woke up from the aether poisoning, before the confrontation with Emet-Selch. It wasn’t anything big, they toured around the Crystarium, just mostly checking out all the shops & everything around.⤵️
#Hexbert- Hex & Ardbert were both very curious children who grew up in isolated in nature, away from rest of world, & raised in spirituality (Ardbert taught by a priest, Hex's village governed by rules of nature spirit). Neither really had other friends their age⤵️
#Hexbert- Ardbert knew how Hex liked baths & springs so he started to guide her to different baths around Norvrandt, based on ones he remembered or gossip he’d hear around the Crystarium. It was also like a little adventure for them.
#Hexbert: Hex is disappointed. Ardbert laughs because he finds it fun & he might have some exp in haunting places…
An actor goes overboard because ‘omg let’s scare the WoL!’ & trips. Ardbert instinctively tries to catch them & they somehow catch footing while terrified place might really be haunted⤵️
